Aviation fire suppression vehicles are a crucial tool for first responders.
This past weekend the Smithsonian unveiled their latest display piece in the National Air and Space Museum, the first rescue vehicle that arrived after Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11. The fully restored airport firefighter truck, the Foam 331, was a key resource to bring the fires under control.
“We are really honored to be able to present the vehicle,” Roger Connor, the Smithsonian’s curator of aeronautics, said of the specialized truck. “The ability to tell a more comprehensive 9/11 story is essential for acknowledging and commemorating one of the most traumatic moments in our nation’s history.”
